How technology is influencing citizen activism and engagement with political institutions.
The Information age has created a world where everyday citizens have the ability to be more empowered and informed. How has technology impacted the way we interact with government instutitions, enforce our rights, mobilize around the causes we care about and influence policy on both a local and global level. This course will examine the changing landscape and it's impact on governments and citizens. Examples include how the Arab Spring used Facebook to organize protests, how people in Istanbul spray-painted DNS codes allowing citizens to bypass government restrictions on Twitter and how online petitions impact decision-making at the White House.
