Historically, the rise of cities has been one of humanity's greatest achievements. Thanks to cities, our species has become smarter, healthier, richer, and happier. The close proximitiy to each other has given rise to a robust exchange of ideas and opportunities to collaborate and innovate. Now, as citizens become more technologically savvy, cities are using digital media to create rich new experiences for tourists and residents. This course will examine specific case studies of how cities are tackling the digital space to improve the quality of daily life. We'll look at how Chicago has prioritized giving digital access to lower income neighborhoods in an attempt to close the digital divide. We'll also explore how Barcelona has created a digital trust network to engage at risk elderly residents. Through our various global research and examples, this course will examine the trends and best practices that cities from around the world are using to help keep their citizens safe, happy and engaged with local causes.
